Netflix's Geeked Week 2024 continues with the latest announcement for The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep, with a brand new preview and release date for the highly anticipated animated film now live.
Doug Cockle, the American voice actor best known for his role as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher video game series, has announced a February 11, 2024 release date for the upcoming Sirens of the Deep. Originally announced for November 2023, Sirens of the Deep follows Geralt of Rivia as he investigates a series of attacks on a coastal village, only to be drawn into a brutal war between humans and merfolk that has been going on for centuries. Cockle reprises his iconic role from the video game for the new animated film.
Netflix releases new preview of The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep starring Geralt and Jaskier
In addition to the February 2025 release date, Cockle has shared a new trailer for Sirens of the Deep. In the exclusive preview, Geralt of Rivia is seen having a heated discussion around a fire with Jaskier, aka Dandelion—and as Cockle humorously puts it, Jaskier gets on Geralt's nerves again. In stark contrast to the first action-packed announcement trailer, this latest clip from Sirens of the Deep showcases the series' more sober moments, filled with humorous dialogue. It also delves deeper into Geralt's humanity when he's not slashing monsters for money.
Studio Mir, the Korean animation studio behind The Legend of Korra, The Boondocks, X-Men '97, and the upcoming Netflix series Devil May Cry, is making The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep. Kang Hei Chul (Lookism) is directing the animated film, with Mike Ostrowski and Rae Benjamin credited as writers. The film is based on “A Little Sacrifice,” a short story by Andrzej Sapkowski, the acclaimed fantasy author behind The Witcher series. “A Little Sacrifice” and several other works were collected in the 1992 book Sword of Destiny.
The latest update on The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep is just the tip of the iceberg for Netflix's Geeked Week 2024. With Geeked Week taking place from September 16 to 19, fans can expect more exciting announcements and never-before-seen footage from popular Netflix series, like the live-action One Piece series. These exciting announcements add to Netflix's strong anime lineup, following the critically acclaimed debut of Terminator: Zero and the upcoming release of Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, the latter of which is set for October 10, 2024.
The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep will begin streaming on Netflix on February 11, 2025. A live-action television adaptation is also available on the platform. Henry Cavill, who previously played Geralt of Rivia in Seasons 1-3 of The Witcher, will be reprised by Liam Hemsworth after he left the series. There is currently no official release date for The Witcher Season 4.
