Games can take players to any sci-fi, fantasy or horror setting, but sometimes, going back in time to history is the most captivating thing.
Coincidentally, the year 2025 marks the explosion of these games with the appearance of countless popular historical fiction blockbusters.
And it is not too difficult for players to list the games below.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows
Assassin's Creed Shadows is set in 16th century feudal Japan, during the final stages of the Sengoku period. The game will take players back in time to the civil war and the peak of Oda Nobunaga's power. Here, we will take on two roles as Yasuke – a samurai and kunoichi Naoe.
Of course, coming to Assassin's Creed Shadows, gamers will also have the opportunity to learn about important historical events such as Nobunaga's attack on Ikki of Iga province, Naoe's hometown. The game will launch on February 14 on PlayStation 5, PC and Xbox Series X.
Ghost of Yotei
Sucker Punch Productions' Ghost of Tsushima is based on the true story and setting of Tsushima Island. The game is set during the first Mongol invasion of Japan and stars Jin Sakai, a fictional samurai.
Ghost of Yōtei will be set more than 300 years after the events of the original game and will once again use a realistic Japanese setting for its story. But Sucker Punch hasn't said much about what Ghost of Yōtei's protagonist Atsu will do in the sequel. Just know that the game will be set in the lands surrounding Mount Yōtei, a towering peak in the heart of Ezo, a region of Japan known as present-day Hokkaido in 1603.
Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra
With an original plot set in World War II, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra will feature two superheroes of that era: Captain America and Black Panther. Fight alongside Howling Commandos member Gabriel Jones and Wakandan Spy Network leader Nanali, two World War II heroes who will battle the mighty Hydra forces.
Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra was first announced in 2021 and is considered a blockbuster action-adventure game, with a completely new storyline and set in the Marvel Universe.
