Warning: The following content contains spoilers for episode 3 of Suicide Squad Isekai!!
Summary
Suicide Squad Isekai enhances the characters' powers, but lacks context for Harley Quinn's rise. The ancient bombs lose their fun, but the series still has potential to grow. The world's connection to the DC multiverse could explain Clayface's powers.
So far, the results that Wit Studio has achieved with Isekai Suicide Squad by temporarily bringing DC's villainous grouping in the anime industry's most oversaturated genre is both the best and worst thing that could have happened to the infamous characters. Things that work include the main “cheat skills,” or god-like abilities that the main characters often gain when they're transported to another world. Ironically, what brings down the whole experience is the way the Suicide Squad's forced relocation replaces what made them special.
Whether viewers are streaming the show on Hulu or Max, the first three episodes of Suicide Squad Isekai reveal that the team is titled has undergone a power-up, like most isekai heroes. While this is a staple of the genre, the difference is that not only do these characters have pre-existing abilities, but the viewer also has unprecedented knowledge of them before the isekai portion of the story begins, which makes their circumstances more understandable and engaging.
So the power-ups have simultaneously received the anime treatment in which They complement their original abilities.. It is also believed that non-superhumans will gain powers. act as an extension of their personality.
Harley Quinn's Superpowers Aren't Explained Yet, But The Rest Is Awesome
Suicide Squad Isekai is produced by Wit Studio and is streaming on Hulu and Max
So far, only two of these upgrades have been explored in detail. For Clayface, the limitation that limited him to only being able to manipulate his own clay now extends to clay that he doesn't produce, making him a much more powerful character, and in a logical way. Ratcatcher, despite being a member of the Suicide Squad before, can now control werewolves in addition to rats. Ratcatcher's increased power is particularly interesting because it allows him to fulfill his current status as the first boss of the Suicide Squad, while also explaining the influence he has gained over Harley and the first wave of the company's henchmen.
Meanwhile, her most important power, partly due to its connection to the very popular Harley Quinn, remains unexplained. Her ability feels like a normal physical enhancement, a problem the anime hopes to fix by making it much more complex and tied to her character, like the best anime powers. In the same way, Another downside of Suicide Squad Isekai that has yet to be explained is how the bombs in the group's necks are affected..
There are still old bombs, but they are not as interesting.
While the series retains the general character of Suicide Squad, it still feels bland despite the anime's other eccentricities.
The most defining aspect of Suicide Squad has always been the control Amanda Waller exerts through these explosive devices, which she monitors 24/7. In Suicide Squad Isekai, she has lost some of her control over them. In effect, what remains is a timed bomb. Harley and her teammates are out of range of a tracker that, if they don't return in 60 hours, will cause the bombs in their necks to detonate.
While there’s still the threat of having their heads blown off their shoulders, it’s a more bland and less interesting version of being constantly monitored and feeling like they have to comply at all times. Thankfully, the change feels natural, as the act of being physically transported to another world would logically distance them from where they need to be – and their main attraction – but that immediacy is now gone.
Ironically, Harley and the gang still act like they have bombs in their necks that could go off at any moment. In addition to the 60-hour timer, the anime somewhat justifies this with the added threat of Waller's Rick Flag being in danger. However, it would make more sense for the Suicide Squad to disband because of this, since they have more than two days of freedom and will do anything to get it. By the way, This development will also increase expectations for the 60-hour deadline.because it will naturally be more difficult to complete the mission in another world with fewer party members.
What about velocity force?
Where exactly is the “new world” the characters have landed on alongside the larger DC multiverse?
Of course, this could and hopefully will happen. However, it should have happened by now, and the longer it takes, the less compelling and urgent it becomes. Suicide Squad Isekai gave viewers a great scene of Harley and the gang taking advantage of a prison they overthrew after being temporarily imprisoned there.
Likewise, Suicide Squad Isekai hopes to reveal that the world Harley and company are transported to is still within the DC multiverse thanks to Clayface's enhanced powers. While DC is constantly changing, one thing that's always certain is that every version of the multiverse has a Speed Force, which serves as the basis for every superhuman's powers.
It's generally understood that if a DC hero leaves the multiverse, they no longer have any of their powers. So if Clayface's powers are still in effect, albeit enhanced, that means he and his peers are still in the multiverse. DC universe, as opposed to a completely new world, as is the case with most isekai. Hopefully, Wit Studio Isekai Suicide Squad will explain this, like every other issue in this still very enjoyable series.
