The first 4 episodes of Jujustu Kaisen Season 2 are flashbacks, devoted to exploring the friendship between Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto and their eventual failure. The flashback is coming to an end, but before they parted, Gojo and Geto were commemorated with their friendship on the cover of Newtype Magazine.
A recent post on X (formerly Twitter) revealed the cover for the upcoming August issue of Newtype magazine, which features pictures of two jujutsu witches when they were still students. Season 2 of this hit anime series showed just how powerful Gojo became, and how Geto became disillusioned and turned to attack non-witches.
The first few episodes show Gojo and Geto as two of the best students at Jujustu High and are often paired up for quests. The season continues to follow the two as they level up, and are eventually tasked with protecting the Star Plasma Vessel. This quest challenges both young witches in unexpected ways, causing Gojo to nearly die. In the end, both have changed a lot: Gojo is stronger than ever, and Geto stands up to the non-witches.
Jujutsu Kaisen has quickly become a fan favorite series. Genge Akutami’s manga was first published in 2018 and quickly gained popularity due to its non-stop characters, story, and action. The commercial success of the manga is also notable, as it has more than 80 million copies in circulation. Season 1 of the anime follows Yuji Itadori, when he accidentally becomes the vessel of Sukuna, the King of Curses. This leads to him being recruited by Gojo into Jujutsu High School. The first season mainly focuses on Itadori as he tries to control his cursed energy and become stronger, and along the way he meets Megumi Fushiguro and Nobara Kugisaki. The three train together and defeat curses to protect the innocent.
Yuji continues to attend Gojo, receiving one-on-one instruction before reuniting with his friends in the mandatory Shonen Tournament round. This ends with a duel between Gojo and Geto, who is by far the series’ big bad guy. Gojo beats Geto, who perfectly sets up Season 2 to explore their relationship when they were both students.
MAPPA, the studio behind the two seasons of Jujustu Kaisen and the JJK 0 movie is also responsible for many other hugely popular anime. They produced the final installment of Attack on Titan, the first part of Chainsaw Man, and the second part of the Vinland Saga.
The second season of Jujutsu Kaisen, the prologue to the Shibuya Incident Arc, will be released on August 21.
