Chapter 170 of Chainsaw Man ends with a bang as Nayuta's death is laid bare before Denji. Denji is the main character of the Chainsaw Man manga and anime.
Chainsaw Man, a popular manga series, has consistently pushed the limits of its characters and their pain, resulting in massive deaths and bloody losses. This week, Chapter 170 takes Denji's trauma to the next level with a thrilling scene, as he confronts the Flamethrower Devil, who has been causing headaches for years. By the end of Chapter 170, the Flamethrower Devil has become Denji's greatest enemy, serving Nayuta's head on a platter.
Denji may have suffered the worst injury of his life.
The fire-breathing demon has been a headache for years now, and by the end of Chapter 170, he becomes Denji's greatest enemy when he serves Nayuta's head on a plate.
The entire scene left Denji in shock. He had treated Nayuta like a sister, and he had endured the Flamethrower Demon to save her. Now, it seemed the young girl was dead. Of course, nothing in Chainsaw Man is as it seems, but the evidence suggests that Nayuta’s murder was done to provoke Denji into becoming the most powerful version of Chainsaw Man possible. And in his grief, one can only imagine the damage Denji could do.
This popular manga is currently available on the Shonen Jump app. Its official synopsis is given below:
“Denji was a boy who worked as a Demon Hunter for the “Chainsaw Demon” Pochita. One day, while living his miserable life trying to repay the debt he inherited from his parents, he was betrayed and killed. While he was losing consciousness, he made a deal with Pochita and was resurrected as the “Chainsaw Man”: the owner of the Demon’s heart.”
Discover Denji's personality
Denji, a bold and naive character, struggles with poverty and a lack of formal education, which leads to a childish and rude personality. Despite his shortcomings, he has a strong sense of empathy for others and is willing to save those in danger. Despite his lack of intelligence, Denji is able to come up with clever strategies to defeat the Devil, such as setting himself on fire and weakening Santa Claus to kill her.
After becoming a Public Safety Demon Hunter and having his basic needs met, Denji is uncertain about what he wants in life. Many of Denji's basic needs are driven by sexual desire, even accepting dangerous missions in exchange for some form of sexual gratification. One such instance is groping Power in exchange for rescuing her cat, however, he later realizes and laments that the satisfaction from such intimate acts is fleeting. Denji also harbors fears that his lack of empathy and attachment after his transformation is a sign that he is losing his humanity.
In his hybrid form, Denji becomes ruthless, aggressive, bloodthirsty, and sadistic, enjoying killing other demons. He finds it amusing to repay his debts by killing Yakuza members who have been turned into zombies by the Zombie Demon's power. He enjoys drinking the blood of the Eternal Demon, which he describes as delicious, and his genius for creating a “perpetual motion machine” is worthy of the Nobel Prize. When the Spear Hybrid pins Denji, he cuts himself and the hybrid in half before crawling over to him, cutting off his head and thanking him for the food while holding it.
Denji began to struggle with having a normal life since he took a liking to transforming and becoming Chainsaw Man due to the attention and popularity he received. When Hirofumi Yoshida forced him to make a choice of having a normal life with Nayuta or becoming Chainsaw Man but that would mean Nayuta would be killed, Denji chose both, and while he eventually complied and began living a normal life without transforming, he slowly began to feel bored and wondered if he could maintain that life with the same routine every day for the rest of his life.
As he becomes increasingly bored with his normal life with its restrictions on personal freedom, his house burns down and his pets are killed due to Barem's plot, which finally pushes him over the edge. He then ignores Nayuta's pleas to run away with her and feels joy in becoming the Chainsaw Man again despite the horrifying circumstances that led to it.
He also expresses immense self-loathing as he attempts to cope with the emotional turmoil he felt when Nayuta went missing and lost his pet by attempting to find sexual gratification in a brothel, fully realizing that he constantly lets his base desires override his priorities.
