Sanrio's Hello Kitty is taking fans back to the late 90s and early 2000s with a new vintage fashion collection, with popular Japanese brand ROYAL PARTY revealing the first of many Y2K-inspired fashion collections.
Through the Hello Kitty X 50th Anniversary account (formerly Twitter), ROYAL PARTY has teamed up with Hello Kitty for a new Y2K-themed fashion collection. The collection debuted with two T-shirt variations, one in a monochrome design and the other in “Kitty’s signature cute red,” as teased in the post below. The T-shirts are priced at 7,590 yen (~$51). Readers can check out the T-shirts and the full collection below, which also includes the Hello Kitty jacket, which is similarly presented in a monochrome/white-and-red color scheme.

The new Y2K apparel collection follows J'aDoRe JUN's massive Hello Kitty collection this month, launching bags, makeup bags, clothing, and more. The brand opted for a completely monochromatic style in black and white or pink, a nod to Kitty's sideways pose when she debuted in 1974. Sanrio and fashion brand Beams Couture's 50th anniversary line also paid tribute to the '70s, opting for a ruffled design and a beige and red color palette to “express the historic atmosphere of that era.” Bandai jumped a decade forward to the '90s, also this month, launching cassette tape charm toys inspired by Sanrio characters Hello Kitty, Kuromi, Cinnamoroll, and more.
