Kodoani.com – Manga author Kazue Katō announced on September 4 that the manga Blue Exorcist will be taking a break from Shueisha's Jump SQ. magazine. The manga will not appear in the September issue (released on August 2) and will also not appear in the October issue, but will return in the December issue, released on November 4.
Katō explained that she was diagnosed with the disease after a routine medical examination in March. She had been in and out of the hospital for the past few months while working on the manga. She has undergone successful surgery and has been discharged, but her treatment and recovery will still take time, leading to the manga's hiatus. Katō assured readers that her illness is not life-threatening, although she did not want to reveal details about her illness at this time.
The Blue Exorcist manga went on hiatus in July 2021 and resumed in May 2022, and in January 2023 and returned in May of the same year. The 31st volume of the manga was released on June 4, 2023.
Blue Exorcist revolves around Rin Okumura, who discovers that he is the son of Satan and vows to defeat his father by becoming an exorcist. The manga has inspired an anime series, OAVs, movies, and several novels, as well as stage plays.
A sequel to the anime, Blue Exorcist: Beyond the Snow Saga, will premiere on October 5, 2024. The anime will have two seasons, with the sequel, Blue Exorcist: The Blue Night Saga, scheduled to air in January 2025.
